Ayurvedic Tips for Aging in our sunset years🌛

Gray hair and wrinkles can be a testimony of wisdom. But in a stressful world we often get caught up in equating our worth with productivity that could weigh on us post-retirement. Everyone, at every stage of life is a gift to the world.  That said, aging does bring preventable and costly health challenges that we need to face squarely, from heart diseases, type 2 diabetes, obesity, arthritis, dry skin, falling hair, cognitive decline, stroke and cancer. There is also the possibility of depletion, loneliness and ageism. So, how can we look after ourselves better to ensure we are physically and mentally stronger as we age? Ayurveda is a holistic mind-body science which supports people through a comprehensive approach to live a healthier life right into their sunset years. It emphasizes that  aging  ( Jara ) is a natural process just like the seasons. It does acknowledge natural degenerative changes but recommends prevention, building resilience and an anti-aging regimen through its br

All Natural Beauty: Grapeseed Oil 🍇

Recent technological advances have paved the way for extracting oil from grape seeds that were once thought merely a useless byproduct by wine makers. While the benefits and uses of grapes have been touted for centuries, the lesser known benefits of grapeseed oil are also worthy of note. Today grapeseed oil is used in a number of beauty products, including hair care products, sunscreen, and moisturizing cream.

Grapeseed Oil for Natural Hair Care

Grapeseed oil is a naturally effective way of moisturizing and conditioning one’s hair. It is a light, odorless oil that won’t leave your hair feeling greasy.  Much like olive oil and coconut oil, grapeseed oil is a natural plant-based oil that is similar to the healthy oils produced naturally by our bodies.  If you suffer from split ends, brittle hair, or are just trying to prevent frizz, then look no further. Apply grapeseed oil to your hair for approximately ten minutes for an easy deep conditioning treatment. This can also help strengthen your hair due in part to its antioxidant properties. Grapeseed oil is also high in omega 6’s, specifically lineolic acid, which helps promote hair and skin growth.
All too often we apply harsh chemicals to our hair, stripping it of everything that makes our hair healthy and whole. The most common victim in this case would be our scalp. Dandruff and dermatitis are caused by a dry scalp, often because of the overstripping of oils by conventional chemicals in shampoos. Grapeseed oil is a great way to counteract that effect because it is full of emollients and nutrients that can help the growth of new healthy skin cells. Taking a little grapeseed oil and rubbing it into your scalp will help restore your scalp’s natural moisture level.

Grapeseed Oil for Natural Skin Care

These beneficial properties also apply themselves to other areas of skin care as well. If you are suffering from acne you should not fear using grapeseed oil on your skin because it is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. Grapeseed oil also has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergen, acne reductive, and moisture retentive properties which are beneficial when treating acne, dermatitis, atopic eczema and dry skin. Grapeseed oil also contains Vitamin E, helping clear existing acne and preventing new breakouts.
If you happen to suffer from varicose veins, grapeseed oil may be very helpful because it contains an antioxidant compound known as oligomeric proanthocyanidin and flavonoids which studies believe help strengthen weakened capillaries, as well as act as an anti-inflammatory. While a natural occurrence, the appearance of varicose veins is generally unwanted, and grapeseed oil can be a treatment to help reduce their appearance. Massaging your legs with grapeseed oil every day will gradually help repair damaged blood vessels, thereby improving circulation and helping to lessen the appearance of varicose veins.

All Natural Beauty

Grapeseed oil is a great multi-use solution to skin and hair care that is all natural. There’s no need for expensive beauty products that are mostly petroleum based, with added perfume and color. Using natural oils on your body is an organic alternative that is more gentle and organic for those of you looking to reduce chemicals in your life.
